We needed a break from our hiking in Zion National Park so we came back to the Zion Lodge after our stop at the number 9 bus unloading site. Red Rock grill is the only restaurant at Zion. We had checked out the restaurant earlier so we knew the menu was good. We just weren’t sure what we’d pick for an early dinner. We had a party of three. The main courses were Bison Burger, Steak Frites, and Angel’s Landing Chicken Sandwich. Soup was really good and I had one. I liked the thickness of the soup and the flavor and the small piece of bread soaking in the soup. But dessert was the best part of dinner especially Huckleberry Ice Cream. The other dessert we ordered and shared was pretty good too, Ricotta cheesecake.Very good view from the restaurant.
The Narrows turkey club was extremely refreshing after hiking! We liked this place so much we ate here twice for lunch. It’s also super convenient because it’s located at stop 5 in the park. The lava cake was also a perfect dessert to end the meal. It was not busy at all when we went both times, maybe about 5-8 tables were filled. Beautiful and peaceful surroundings of the canyon. Service was fast and friendly. I would highly recommend this grill after a long day of hiking. Not too expensive. Quick and easy to get to rather than go all the way back out to Springdale for food.
Experience/Environment: I don’t have any pictures of the restaurant space — but imagine the views of a peaceful and open field, where everyone from babies to seniors can enjoy fresh air, and play.. whatever their version of play is. And surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Zion. And if you can’t imagine it, Google it.
The restaurant is upstairs at the lodge. There are stairs or elevators to get you up there. Decent size dining area inside with a nice patio full of seats as well. There are umbrellas at the tables on the patio to help block wind/cotton debris they have flying around this time of year.
Food: Let’s get into this. Nearly everything was cooked to perfection. So props to the Chef. We have a variety of taste buds at our table so that’s added impressive.
From Starters to Main Entrees
Southwest Eggrolls: I took the chicken out of mine and replaced it with the slaw that came on the plate. It was fabulous. The texture of the wrap was the perfect level of crunch with zero sogginess from the flavorful and juicy mix on the inside. The table agreed that the chicken was seasoned extremely well and salsa it came with was a nice added touch - 10/10.
Empanadas: I didn’t taste the inside mix of these, but the table says it was flavorful, definitely kicks of spice but super worth it. The outside of it was once again perfection. Perfectly flaky and indulging. I wanted a croissant all day and even though this was thicker than a croissant, it satisfied my craving - 10/10.
Power broccoli/brussel salad: Choose your protein, but of course I chose salmon. I asked for it blackened. Just look at it. Lol. Incredible and it taste as much. It could’ve used more blackened seasoning, but all good. The salad is more savory than I expected, but not in a negative way because if you need it, sweetness, you had the supporting roles from the apples and cranberries. It was amazing - 10/10.
Half soup/half sandwich: the cups of soup are. pretty dainty and the sandwich matches it lol. Soup was tasty, they had different kinds of beans in it that made it special, the tortilla chip on top still had a crunch to it. Turkey club was fresh and once again, shout out to the bacon - 9/10.
Zion Burger(s): Patties were seasoned well with cheese is nicely melted on top on both. First one, request was: medium well/no tomato. Patty itself was huge, the bacon was nice and crispy, but not crunchy. Fries portion could be a little bigger I feel but who doesn’t want more fries? Only call out here was the patty was more well done than medium well - 8.5/10. Second one, request was: can’t remember the temperature specifically but opposite of medium well lol, no bun, add a fried egg soft top. The chef nailed it - 10/10.
Lastly, had a coffee to go. Other than Starbies, I prefer my coffee black. Black coffee you really don’t have an expectation, but I can tell you this coffee was delicious. It was probably one of the best black coffees I’ve ever had - 10/10.
Service: ZACH! Give this man a raise, an extra day off, or a bonus. He was charismatic, great with conversation, attentive, all while being fun! If you read through the review, you see the different requests we all had. That’s not an easy feat to accomplish with zero send backs or ”forgets” (trust me, I have stories). Zach delivered and checked in during the preparation process to keep us updated. In addition, he was the only person going out to the patio, saving customers from themselves with the umbrellas. Lol. Zach was great - 12/10.
NTT [[Next Time Try]]: I would personally want to try their black bean burger. Because why not lol. I was really hoping to go outside of the park to eat, but after my experience here, I’m really glad I stayed in. Thanks again Zach for taking great care of us!
We stopped at this grill for a quick bite after hiking some trails during our 20th wedding anniversary visit to Zion National Park. The waiter was very friendly and professional. The food tasted great and was served quickly. Looking for a quick and delicious bite, this place is sure to satisfy your craving and get you back on your adventure in Zion!
We ordered the burger, taco platter and green salad (Brussel sprout/Kale). The burger was probably the best of the 3. The tacos were okay. The salad was okay, bordering on not fresh enough with black/grey marks on the chopped brussel sprouts. (Oxidized?) Our server from N. Carolina was gracious and attentive. My mom ordered the tangy slaw to accompany her burger wanting to avoid fried food but the staff who delivered the food said since the slaw isn’t prepared yet we gave you fries. (Instead of informing her of the issue and giving her a choice to make a change. Our waitress was considerate to offer my mom more amenable options like a green salad or fruit cup and quickly delivered fruit, delighting my mom. The atmosphere of eating on the open air deck of the lodge was very special. The view could not be beat!
