The In-Park Guiding Rule

Commercial guide companies are not permitted to lead trips on Zion National Park's own trails and canyons — this includes technical canyoneering routes inside the park. If you want to canyoneer or hike a technical route inside Zion itself, you'll need to do it on your own (with the required permit), not with a hired guide. Every guided canyoneering, climbing, or similar technical tour operating near Zion runs on adjacent BLM, Forest Service, state trust, or private land just outside the park boundary, where the outfitter handles permits, gear, and safety directly.

Canyoneering and Technical Routes

Self-guided technical canyoneering and through-hikes inside Zion (like the Left Fork/Subway or the Narrows top-down) require a wilderness permit through the seasonal Recreation.gov lottery. If you'd rather go with a guide, that experience will be on nearby public or private land outside the park rather than inside it — still a genuine canyoneering trip, just not within Zion's boundary.
