About

The scent of buttery croissants and wood-fired warmth draws you into this authentic Belgian bakery. Four counter stools face the working kitchen, where you can watch bakers pull golden pastries from European ovens. The croque madame and daily quiche are standouts, but the ham and cheese croissants and flaky palmiers disappear fast.

Kanab Creek Bakery doubles as an art gallery, with local paintings lining the walls and a peaceful patio for morning coffee. The Belgian owners bring old-world techniques to southern Utah, crafting everything from scratch daily. You'll smell the bread baking before you see the storefront.

The breakfast menu goes beyond pastries. Real quiche with farm eggs, proper European sandwiches, and espresso drinks that taste like they came from Brussels. Grab extra palmiers for the road (you'll want them later). The takeout counter moves quickly, perfect for fueling up before a day in the slot canyons.

Kanab sits perfectly between Zion and the Arizona strip, making this bakery a natural pit stop. The town gets busy during peak season, so parking can be tight. But the authentic European atmosphere and exceptional baked goods make it worth circling the block. It's the kind of place that makes you wish you'd discovered it on day one of your trip instead of the last.

That thought can make the ending hit harder without sounding unfair or overly personal. I’d phrase it like this: We had really high expectations for this bakery after hearing about the reopening, but unfortunately our experience did not come close to meeting them. For four people, we ordered three coffees, one hot chocolate, four baked breakfast sandwiches, and three desserts. Our total was around $130. At that price point, I expect fresh, quality food—especially when we're talking about something as simple as bread, cheese, ham, and an egg. Instead, the sandwiches appeared to have been pre-made and then put into the wood-fired oven just long enough to barely warm them before being served. What a missed opportunity. Crack a fresh egg, add the ham and cheese, put it on fresh bread, and let that wood-fired oven actually make something special. It isn't complicated or overly time-consuming, and at these prices, it should absolutely be made fresh. I have no problem paying premium prices for premium food. But $130 for four people should come with a level of quality and freshness that simply wasn't there. I know they have recently reopened, and hopefully they make some major improvements quickly. Unfortunately, if this is the quality customers can expect at this price point, I don't see this being a place that lasts very long. High expectations, premium prices, and a very disappointing experience. That last paragraph gives them the **“you better fix this quickly”** warning without making the review sound like you’re rooting for them to fail. Didn’t even warm up the desserts that were supposed to be served warm 🤬

We had the breakfast pizza, toad in the hole (soudough with sunnyside up egg) and, fresh out of the oven, cinnamon roll. Coffee was great and the ladies behind the counter friendly. Pretty sure that was the best cinnamon roll I have ever had. Everything was delicious! ♡

Came here for a quick coffee stop and baked goods as we were visiting in Kanab. Though the coffee menu had the prices listed, and align with other coffee shops in area, genuinely shocked by the cost for a ham and swiss croissant $13 as price was not listed. Together with a cortado (4oz coffee), bill came to $22 before tip. Other than coffee stop, suggest going elsewhere for baked goods unless you’re desperate. Service was decent though, friendly and relatively quick.

I so wanted to support this place. But after just paying nearly $10 for a chai tea latte listed as $5.99 on the board, I was charged some ridiculous amount PLUS .75 for making it with whole milk! And it wasn’t even hot! When I asked, I was told the chai latte listed wasn’t the same as what I ordered. 🤔! So because there was a line, I got pushed to the side to wait. Wow! Talk about being worse than Starbucks! I come through Kanab fairly often and was excited when they reopened after the pandemic with new owners. Sadly, I won’t be back. I can’t believe I was charged $10 for a tepid 16oz drink that tastes like warm milk.

There are several places to eat breakfast in this picturesque little town. Check out the alternatives. Atmosphere: If you can snag one of the four stools at the counter in the lobby, it would be the best because it’s nicely decorated and you have the warmth from the wood fire pizza oven you’re lucky otherwise you get shuffle to a dining room next-door. Food: There aren’t many items on the menu and all look good. My wife and I each ordered the quiche Lorraine at $14 US each. Each was delivered to our table in aluminum take away plates with plastic lids. Our plastic cutlery was delivered and sealed bags with a napkin and salt and pepper. Real plates and cutlery would’ve been nice. The quiche was obviously baked at another time, then “reheated” for service. The top layer wasn’t burnt, but it was much too dark. Probably from the reheating. The quiche was barely warm when we started and we we got to the center it was ice cold not appetizing at all. The flavour was just OK. Perhaps the kitchen staff was just having an off day although it wasn’t that busy when we were there at 11 o’clock on a Thursday morning. Service: I the cashier who took the order, and payment was very nice and welcomed us with a big smile and a, “good morning.“ See my photos for a better feel for things.
