About

Watchman Campground offers one of the most coveted camping experiences in the national park system, placing visitors directly inside Zion Canyon with the Virgin River flowing nearby and the park's iconic sandstone cliffs rising in every direction. The campground's 176 sites accommodate both tent campers and RVs, with many spots featuring electrical hookups and shade from mature cottonwoods and willows.

The location proves ideal for experiencing Zion at its most peaceful moments. After day-trippers depart, campers enjoy exclusive access to the canyon during golden hour and dawn, when the Watchman formation and surrounding peaks glow in spectacular light. The campground sits adjacent to the Pa'rus Trail, allowing easy walking or biking access to the visitor center and Springdale without needing to drive. Wildlife frequently passes through, from mule deer grazing between sites to the diverse bird population that delights early risers.

Sites vary from open spots perfect for stargazing to more sheltered areas beneath the trees. The Virgin River provides a soothing soundtrack, particularly pleasant from the loops closest to the water. Modern restrooms with flush toilets and drinking water are distributed throughout, though showers aren't available on-site.

Securing a reservation requires planning, as sites book months in advance during peak season. The campground operates year-round, with winter offering a quieter experience and easier availability. Spring and fall provide ideal weather, while summer sites beneath the cottonwoods offer welcome shade during hot afternoons. For those seeking an authentic Zion experience beyond the typical hotel stay, Watchman Campground delivers unmatched access to the park's natural rhythms.

We had a wonderful stay at Watchman Campground at Zion National Park! Our campsite had an electric hookup, which was incredibly helpful since we were able to plug in our fans and stay comfortable. The campground is clean, well maintained, and the restrooms were spotless. The beautiful surroundings and convenient location inside Zion National Park made the experience even better. We absolutely loved camping here and would definitely stay again. Highly recommend it!

We have stayed at Watchman twice. Once in 2012 in a tent with our kids and then again in 2026 as a retired couple in our van. The campground is nice and a great choice for touring Zion. Electric hookups only. Water and Dump station is a drive through. Situated near the Springdale entrance. No showers at this campground and I remember using dry shampoo when we tent camped for 5 days. I believe there are showers in nearby Springdale. Bathrooms are very clean. Short walk to the Visitor Center. Maintenance needs: Get rid of deadwood on sites. No one wants a tree falling on their kids or their RV. NOTE: If visiting in mid-summer, be prepared for hot days. This is the desert and the campground is at a much lower we elevation than the surrounding peaks of Zion. FAMILY TIMR: Our favorite hike of all time was the Narrows. If you have not done it, make sure you do. We did it with our 10 & 12 year old kids years ago and it is an amazing family experience and will provide memories that last the rest of your life. Make sure you suit up for the experience in town as the water is really cold.

Great stay – highly recommended! We had a fantastic stay with an electric hookup. As Europeans, we only needed a simple adapter to use the standard power outlet, which was very convenient. The location is amazing—right by the river with beautiful views of the Watchman. Everything is within easy reach: bike rentals, restaurants, and the park entrance are all just a short walk or ride away. For such a prime location, the campground is very reasonably priced. Cell phone reception was excellent, and showers are available nearby at one of the outfitters in town for a small fee, just a short distance away. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend this campground to anyone visiting the area! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Gorgeous views, large natural sites, quiet and peaceful. However... when we arrived to check in, another RV was in our reserved spot. Those campers were staying almost all day past their check-out time; we had to park temporarily in another site for five hours. Turns out, that same day this happened at four other campsites! The campground management/the park is to blame because this is clearly a a reoccurring issue and one that can be easily solved. There should be strong warnings when you arrive about a strict check-out time, and there should be enforcement of that rule. The campground staff couldn't get ahold of the occupying camper so they just said wait 'til evening and then they "might" be able to charge them an extra night (just $30. for convenient parking $30 ain't nothing clearly). They should be ticketed or towed! Or impose an expensive fee if you overstay! At the second busiest NP in the country, they should have this figured out. People are abusing the privilege of camping there, to the detriment of other campers.

One of the nicest campgrounds of any national park I’ve been to! The paths to the restrooms and between sites are well paved, the bathrooms themselves are super clean. The water fountains and trash cans are well placed. The sites themselves are well designed with beautiful views. Seems very clean and new. The nightly ranger lectures in the amphitheater is a very nice touch too. Would totally stay again.
